How to Install the 1703000E0 Gearbox Shift Rod on SINOTRUK HOWO Mining Trucks:

  1. Park on Level Ground & Engage Parking Brake: Ensure vehicle is stable and transmission is in neutral before starting.
  2. Disconnect Battery (Optional): For safety, disconnect negative terminal if working near electrical components.
  3. Access Shift Mechanism: Remove underbody panels or access covers beneath the cab to reach the gearbox linkage system.
  4. Support Gearbox (if needed): Use a jack stand to slightly support the transmission to prevent stress during disassembly.
  5. Remove Clevis Pin & Cotter Pin: Locate the clevis joint connecting the old shift rod to the gearbox lever. Remove cotter pin and slide out the clevis pin.
  6. Detach from Cab End: At the driver’s cabin end, disconnect the rod from the gear shifter mechanism using wrenches or snap ring pliers.
  7. Extract Old Shift Rod (1703000E0): Carefully pull out the worn or bent rod from its mounting brackets.
  8. Install New Shift Rod (1703000E0): Align the new heavy-duty shift rod with mounting points. Reattach both ends — cabin lever first, then gearbox lever.
  9. Secure with New Pins & Clips: Insert new clevis pin and secure with a fresh cotter pin. Do not reuse old fasteners.
  10. Test Gear Engagement: Manually move the shifter through all gears (engine off) to ensure smooth operation. Start engine and test each gear while stationary.
